10 Things Every 20-Something Should Know
1. Happy girls are the prettiest girls.
Audrey Hepburn wasn’t kidding when she said this. There’s always a positive in every situation, so look at the glass as half-full and stay happy. Smiles are so much prettier than frowns, so start and end every day with a smile on your face.
2. Your grades in college don’t define you.
Getting that A in your Chemistry class might seem like the only important thing right now, but I promise that it’s not. Failing an exam is not the end of the world and nobody is going to judge you if you have to retake a course. Your GPA does not define what type of person you are.
3. You don’t need to have everything figured out yet.
It might seem like everyone has their lives figured out, but I promise that they don’t. People in their 50s even change their life plans. Take time to figure yourself out and don’t be afraid to try something new—the rest will fall into place.
4. Love and respect yourself.
Like Justin Bieber says, “love yourself.” You shouldn’t rely on someone else to make you feel happy or worthy. You are smart, capable, and amazing. Fall in love with yourself before you fall in love with anyone else.
5. Celebrate your wins.
If you ace a test or get offered your dream internship, go ahead and celebrate! Treat yourself to dessert every now and then and remind yourself how awesome you are. It’s good for your mental health and it will encourage you to continue doing well.
6. Surround yourself with people who care about you.
Let go of the people who you don’t have healthy relationships with. Your friends and family should always encourage you to do your best! Sometimes it’s better to have one amazing friend than ten unsupportive friends.
7. You have so much time to do fun things.
You might think that you have to go to every event while you’re young and in college, but you don’t! You have so many years to have fun, so don’t feel guilty when you spend a few nights in your room doing homework and eating pizza.
8. Nobody’s perfect.
Hannah Montana said it best. Mistakes aren’t always a bad thing; they are steps you need to take to learn something new. Don’t worry too much if you slip up because I guarantee that you will learn from it and never make the same mistake twice. We’re only human!
9. Don’t compare yourself to others.
In today’s society, it is too easy to compare yourself with others via social media. But you shouldn’t do this. Remember that you are your own person and that you are amazing in your own unique ways.
10. Do what you love to do.
If you aren’t absolutely in love with your major, change it! Do it now instead of returning to school with regrets later on.. Your happiness is your first priority. If something makes you happy, then pursue it and don’t look back.
